While at Ruantallan War Camp this weekend, I decided to bring a bit of the flax I have to try spinning it. I went down to the brush pile by the fire to look for a suitable branch for a distaff, and found a nice slightly curved branch that sat well against my hip with my belt.
I forgot to take a picture of prepping the flax and tying it on the distaff, but here's a picture of it after I had a bit of time to get used to it.
It wasn't quite as humid as it probably should have been, but I did manage to get a bit spun up Sunday evening. I enjoy how thin it spins up, but the keeping it moist while spinning from the unusual angle of a distaff was throwing me off my groove. I shall get more practice in over the next while and try to build some muscle memory.
